Glowing Orange Roses

There is something about bright, glowing orange hued roses in the garden that lights up any area.  Perhaps it’s the contrast between the deep green foliage or the way the sun bounces off the bright colored petals.  Although not new in the garden, orange roses still draw attention because of their somewhat unique coloring compared to their ‘classic’ red, pink and white cousins.

Not all oranges are created equal.  Livin’ Easy™ is a great example of an apricot orange blend floribunda that has it all – great lasting color, glossy green leaves & long-lived flowers.  Livin’ Easy is an All-America Rose Selections winner for 1996 and also one of our “Easy-To-Love™” roses, with natural resistance to disease.  Just add some water and watch her grow.

About Face™

For an unusual caramel-orange color, check out the floribunda Pumpkin Patch™. It  pumps out loads of “fall” color all season long.  Copper orange clusters & glossy bright green leaves will delight both you and visitors to your home.

About Face™ is another of Weeks Roses AARS winners. It dazzles visitors with not only unique golden-orange color on the inside of the bloom, but also with a deeper bronze/red backside creating a rare treat for the rose enthusiast.  It wasn’t this bloom color alone that won the judges over; lush, clean green leaves set the perfect backdrop for this two-toned stunner.

As for pure, orange juice orange color, nothing looks as good as Vavoom™.  Bright, bright orange stays until the very end.  The flower color isn’t the only thing this rose has going for it.  Mix the orange petals with deep mahogany red new growth and glossy green leaves and you have a color machine for the garden.  Another great feature for this plant is medium-low growing habit which makes it perfect for tucking into spaces where you might not have success with a larger rose.

If you would like to mix a bit of color with your orange then Oranges ‘n’ Lemons is a fantastic shrub that blends these two colors with its striped petals.  A shrub which sends out arching canes six to eight feet long, the fruity aroma is the perfect finish for this fountain of color.  Let it go wild or train it as a climber, you will be sure to enjoy this rose.

  Chris Evert™

As for mixes with an orange accent, there are plenty of these as well.  You can’t help but ‘love’ Chris Evert, a hybrid tea with melon orange color that blushes to red.  You get to enjoy her color show throughout the ‘match’ as the red continues to add spice to the ‘game’.  We Salute You™ is another hybrid tea with large warm orange and pink two-toned blossoms atop long stems.  Watch the buds unfurl into a surprising color show with an orangy hue on the inside and a beautiful coral pink on the outside.

Another showy, multicolor that keeps you guessing is Chihuly®.  Fresh swirled colors of pink and yellow begin to blush to as deep as scarlet red. Orange is likely to be one of the colors during the process.  As colorful as its namesake, glass artist Dale Chihuly, you never really know what you are going to get as the blooms just continue during the season.  And, also like the artist, the rose never disappoints.

Even the miniatures get into the orange spirit.  Smoke Rings is a one-of-a-kind miniature with melon orange open blooms edged with a smoky purple border. This little plant is big on color!  Staying compact and rounded, Smoke Rings™ makes a perfect plant for a patio or other small space.
