But roses don’t always need their own garden.  Today there are more choices than ever that allow us to place roses throughout our yards, complimenting other types of plants and landscapes.

Roses are available in numerous colors and combinations making finding a hue that fits into your garden’s palette easier than ever.  Think purples, yellows, whites and multicolored roses to mix with annuals and perennials.  Don’t forget to consider the foliage color on the rose as well.  Since roses display their leaves throughout the growing season they can be used to anchor locations where more coverage is needed.

You also don’t need a vast amount of space to enjoy the look and scent of roses. Miniature roses can be tucked into small areas or placed in containers. Miniatures are available in an assortment of colors and styles

.Shrubs are another option for filling spaces where you may not want the height but would like to enjoy the look a fragrance of a rose.  Disease resistant Home Rune has a medium habit with flame red petals and makes a perfect addition in a space where you want bright color.

Another way to use roses is as a backdrop to a garden.  By finding a wall or trellis that receives adequate sun you can place a climbing rose behind other plants.  Many of Weeks Roses climbers climbers are vigorous growers, blooming their first season

Several color choices are also available so you are not limited using traditional rose colors.  Rich foliage coverage adds to the garden’s appeal even when not coated with bountiful blooms.

If you have a garden with primarily low growing plants and shrubs Weeks Roses has trees available in heights of 18”, 24”, 36” and 48”.  This allows you to select the best size for your garden.  Instead of coaxing an annual to add height in a particular area each year you can use a rose tree and enjoy the color year after year.  Weeks Roses specially selects varieties which will look best while cascading above your garden.

Weeks also has “Twofers” which are 36” trees with two complimentary varieties such as Julia Child (golden-yellow Ebb Tide (purple) or Iceberg (white) with either Brilliant Pink or Burgundy Iceberg.  If you use trees in your garden remember that they will need additional rigid support since their tops will be filled with clusters of beautiful flowers. If you have an area where you just want loads of color and not the trouble of selecting and caring for several different types of flowers you may wish to consider a mass planting of a single type of rose.  The "3bergs" (traditional Iceberg and the two color variations) are popular for this use.  Look for roses which produce clusters of color such as Hot Cocoa or Julia Child.  Floribundas and grandifloras often make good choices.

Remember you don’t need a “rose garden” to enjoy roses in your garden.
